The Black Hornet. Fort Morgan, Colorado. 2010 – Ongoing
The Black Hornet is a racecar developed by M12 to engage the regional landscape and community of the Eastern Colorado High Plains. The project is a performance event, a community and culture building strategy, and an audience engagement program. The Black Hornet functions as a racecar of course, but it also awakens discussions of how viewers might encounter cultural exchange in rural communities. This project mobilizes collective knowledge in the broader public sphere, highlighting the mechanisms of connective aesthetics.
The M12 Black Hornet is a four-cylinder, front wheel drive Honda that races at the I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Pit-boss Chris Hall who represents a 3rd generation legacy at this rural quarter-mile dirt track manages the car and overseas the pit crew. In 2010 rookie driver Bronson Brannon raced the Black Hornet and successfully won the season’s points championship. M12’s rookie hornet-class driver for 2012 is Cody “Rooster” Hall.
